Oscar Controls V2 spinner
The V2 is the latest spinner
from Oscar Controls!
Building on similar design principles of the
highly successful Vortex, the V2 is a reduced-sized version of the
Vortex with the ability to support upgrade kits (see below).
.: Features
The V2 frame is extremely durable
and rigid due to its all steel box construction. The
hi-resolution encoder wheel makes the V2 very
responsive, little to no adjustments to the MAME
settings are required for perfect gameplay.
Frame – The V2 frame can be
completely disassembled by removing four screws. This
allows for better access to the spinner for
installation of an “upgrade kit”. The entire frame is
finished in a gloss black cathodic acrylic electrocoat
for life-long protection.
Flywheel – The V2 flywheel is
machined from solid aluminum. The 2” diameter flywheel
is taller than the Vortex’s, but the mass is
identical. This gives the spinner the same “weight” as
the Vortex in a smaller package.
Shaft – The hardened shaft on
the V2 is fully adjustable for wood or metal control
panels. To change the mounting depth of the spinner,
simply loosen the two screws on the flywheel, adjust
the shaft, and tighten the screws.
Bearings – The removable
upper bearing on the V2 is the same as used on the
Vortex, while the lower bearing is press-fit directly
into the frame.
Optic Board – The V2 ships
with the Oscar Controls Universal Optic Board. This
optic board is compatible with the Ultimarc Opti-PAC
and MiniPAC, Hagstrom ME4, and the optional USB mouse
interface (see order page).
.: Kits
Push Kit
This kit is available separately and
comes with detailed installation instructions. The
Push Kit includes everything you need to add a switch
to the bottom of the shaft to add a push-button effect
by depressing the spinner knob.
.:
Connection to encoder interface
The connection header
on the V2 has 4 pins labeled:
+5V
GND
S1
S2
The +5V and GND pins
are to be wired to your encoder's similarly labeled
connections. The S1 & S2 pins are to be
wired to your encoder's signal input connections (X1
& X2 for the Opti-PAC, A3 & B3 for the
Hagstrom ME4, etc). A
receptacle connector is included with the
Vortex
spinner for making the wire connections. A small,
flat head screwdriver is all that is required for
inserting the wires into the connector.
Recommended wire size is 22 gauge stranded.
When using the Vortex
spinner with the Ultimarc Opti-PAC, ensure the
interface's polarity jumper is set to Active Lo for
maximum performance.
.: USB Mouse interface
The optional USB mouse
interface allows the V2 spinner to be connected
directly to your PC's USB port. The USB mouse
interface is compatible with Windows98/Me/2000/XP.
The V2 may be used
on either the x- or y-axis with the USB mouse interface,
and it also supports axis-reversing.
.: Installation
The V2 is designed for extremely easy installation.
Only a single hole in your control panel is necessary (approximately
3/8" diameter) for the shaft to protrude through. Screws to attach
the frame to the underside of your control panel are all that is
required.
Recommended clearance allowance for
installation: 3 3/8" x 2" x 2 3/4" deep
(without Push Kit).
