LCD

LCD Display

One of the key factors of this project was that I wanted my arcade machine to double as a jukebox. I really wanted to add an lcd to display song names, info, time left, etc. After searching around the web, my two real choices were a Crystalfontz display and an lcd display from ZeroHype. I eventually decided on the Zerohype display because they had an external version that could be mounted in my cabinet and they had some nice software that seemed really easy to use. Not only does the Zhed display show song info, but I use it to display system stas like cpu usage, time, date, uptime, available diskspace , etc.

The Zhed was extremely easy to hook up. I just wedged it up near the top and cut a small hole in the bezel around the screen. It hooks up to the computer via the parallel port and with the above software, I had the lcd display working in minutes. Now only if they could create some software that would display mame game names and high scores. (hint hint)

The Zhed looks perfect mounted just above the monitor. It doesn't distract from the action going on screen.

A nice picture of the mounted LCD.

Nice far angled shot of the Zhed displaying system stats.

Close up of the Zhed. The cut job looks rudimentary from this view but you can't notice it from normal viewing distance.

A nice view of the Zhed while playing Mortal Kombat. Wouldn't it be nice if it displayed the name of the rom you were playing and the high scores, men left, etc. It only works as a system monitor and for displaying song info from winamp at the moment. I can dream though. :D
