There is very little that is known about the earliest ancestor of a North Carolina clan of the Annas/Annis family, Jeremiah Annas.
The general consensus is that the family originated from the early Virginia Annis family of Thomas Annis who was documented as a bondsman arriving from England in 1638. This Annis lineage is under research and will be updated on a regular basis.
The Jeremiah Annas lineage has descendants that use both predominant spellings of the surname and are generally still located in several counties of North Carolina.

Hi again cousin Michael.
During the Korean War, in 1951 while I was going to college, the draft board started breathing down my neck so the first part of 1952 I made a decission to join the Air Force. I enlisted on March 6, 1952 and was sent ot Lackland AFB in San Antonio, Texas. I was in basic training for more than two months. I was then transferred to Vance AFB. Enid. Oklahoma, and placed in an orderly room. Our squadron and the base was for training and for support. We flew B-25's and smaller training planes.
We also trained in the T-33's when they came out. Vance is part of the Air Training Command. I advanced to Sergeant there. I was transferred to Ladd AFB. Fairbanks, Alaska in 1954 with the 1930 AACS squadron. At that time Alaska was considered overseas duty. It had not become a state. There I was placed in charge of the squadron finance and was raised to Staff Sergeant. Every 15 days I had to strap on a 45 calibar hand gun to pick up the money. I didn't know a thing about a 45 gun and still to this day don't. ha We had GCA as part of our squadron along with other support groups. We flew F-89 scorpion jets and covered most of Alaska. We had sites at Galena, Umiat, and Pt. Barrow that was part of our group that we had to visit. I also made many trips to Anchorage. We had a sister squadron there. While there, I joined the furtherest north Southern Baptist Church in the world. We met in a quanset hut. I also lived in a quanset hut for some time while there. It got really cold in those huts in the winter. I have also camped out while the temperature was below zero. The coldest I saw it there was 53 below zero. It is a dry cold though and I really enjoyed my time there. I had to walk one day to where I lived about one mile when it was 52 below. No cars or truck running, my legs did get some num but other than that I made it OK. I was flown back to Tacomo. Washington the latter part of January,1956, was sent to the naval base in Seattle. Wash and on January 29, 1956 I was released from active duty. I had an 8 year obligation so I had to wait til 1960 to get my discharge. It was an enjoyable experience and I have always felt not only did it do me a lot of good but that I was proud to serve my country.
Michael, I will tell you at another time about both of my sons in service. Stephen, Who died in 1995 served for almost 21 years and retired as a CWO. Michael. who now lives in Winston Salem.NC also was in the Air Force for 4 years. God bless you Michael. I think of you not only as a cousin but as a good Christian friend.

Robert Glenn Annas, 90, of 3361 Horseshoe Road, died Sunday, Dec. 28, 1997, in Martinsville Memorial Hospital after eight years of declining health.

Born Aug. 27, 1907, in Caldwell County, N.C., he was a son of John Annas and Mary Beane Annas.

On April 19, 1953, he was married to Cloice Wright Annas.

He lived in Charlotte, N.C., for 40 years prior to moving to Danville in 1994. He was retired from Hall Oil Company in Charlotte, where he worked as a salesman.

He was a member of Northside Baptist Church in Charlotte, where he had taught Sunday School for more than 15 years.

In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include four daughters, Patricia "Patti" A. Smith of Danville, Velma A. Townsend of Boyertown, Pa., Shirley A. Cline of Conover, N.C., and Shelba Jean A. Turner of Lenior, N.C.; two sons, M. Larry Annas of Hickory, N.C., and Hugh O. Annas of Lenior, N.C.; three brothers, Lindsey Annas of Phoenix, Ariz., Howard Annas of Lenior, N.C., and Lewis Annas of Hudson, N.C.; and 26 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by a son, R.G. Annas Jr.; two daughters, Mary A. Stoerrle and Donna A. Howell; and eight brothers.

Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Tuesday at Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel by the Rev. Dr. Doug Barber and the Rev. Robert Vermillion. Interment will be in Highland Burial Park.

The family will receive friends at the residence.
