METHOD 2 - LAUNCH FROM HOTKEY

NOTE:  In order to view the ToolTips in the coding sections (aqua background), you must have javascript enabled.

INTRODUCTION AND LIMITATIONS

This page assumes you already have Johnny5 and your frontend of choice installed and just wish to add support for launching the viewer from a hotkey while viewing the games list.  This is one of the earliest and easiest ways of launching the viewer.

MAMEwah supports this and I cover it below.  EmuLoader does not support this.  I think most of Howard Casto's frontends will support it.

Minwah recommends setting this up to launch with the "J" key.  This is fine for keyboard use or would also be the MAME™ default for Player 2 Button 7.  If you don't have a seven button panel, you should change this to a key that your panel can produce.

MAMEWAH INTEGRATION

MAMEwah has gone through many revisions, and I am not familiar with all of them.  I have personally verified these settings work, as described using Versions 1.61 and 1.62B5.  I will post file names and settings for these versions.

• MAMEWah 1.62B5 Launch Settings - If you are using from MAMEwah 1.62b1 up to the latest (24Sep05) (1.62B6 Beta) version of MAMEwah, you need to set the following lines in your (typically) C:\mamewah\config\mame\mame.ini file:

• ### Execution Settings ###
  general_app_commandlines                  c:\johnny\Johnny5.exe [name]
  
• Then you need to set the Ctrlr File Settings below.

• MAMEWah 1.61 Launch Settings - For MAMEwah version 1.61 (or previous?), you need to set the following lines in your (typically) C:\mamewah\ini\mame.ini file:

• ### External Application Settings ###                      
  app_1_executable                                c:\johnny\Johnny5.exe
  app_1_commandline_format                  [name]        
• Then you need to set the Ctrlr File Settings below.

• Ctrlr File Settings - Change the following line:  For MAMEwah 1.61, these changes would (typically) be made to C:\mamewah\ctrlr\default.ini.  For MAMEwah 1.62b5, they would (typically) be made to C:\mamewah\config\mamewah.cfg:

• ### INPUT MAPPINGS ###
  LAUNCH_APP_1        "DIK_J"
  
• A complete list of input constants is available at http://mamewah.mameworld.net/docs/ctrlr.txt.
  

NOTE:  Ensure that you don't have any trailing spaces after the entries above or the viewer may fail to launch.

OTHER FRONTENDS

Unfortunately, I don't have much info on setup with other frontends.
