Cabinet

Plan of action | FAQ

My cabinet is a Sega Swing (4 player cabinet), production of these where around '92, Not sure if they where popular in the UK, this cabinet was imported from Japan.

At first I couldn't get this through the front door (standard 29.5" wide door), luckly this funky cabinet has a removable monitor section, also making it easy to transport.

Specifications:
  • 25" Standard/Medium switchable resolution monitor (non-rotatable though).
  • Large removable control panel, supports upto 4 players.
  • Front monitor glass flips up like a bonet, allowing access to the monitor controls.
  • Stereo speakers.
  • Unique Sega keys to unlock the control panel, coin door, jamma door, monitor door.
Plan of action:
  • Interface the monitor to the PC.
  • Interface speakers to the PC.
  • Redesign the control panel (need to workout my requirements yet).

Cabinet FAQ section

Q: What is a Cabinet?

A: A Cabinet is the main unit, it holds the control panel, monitor, coin mech, speakers etc. Basically it is the main componet, the cabinet needs to be choosen carefully on your exact requirement.

Its recommended that you don't butcher a classic cabinet, me got told its punishable by death or something!

Look in the links section for places to purchase cabinets, well in the UK anyways.

Q: What Cabinet do I want?

A: Hey me not a mind reader! Firstly workout how much space you have got and measure the doorway! (Cabinets are very wide and very heavy).

Workout if you want a Cabinet with a rotating monitor, more than 2 player support, 19" or 25" or bigger monitor (or you might not use an arcade monitor), think about what controls you want to use.

Price is a factor too, don't think you'd impress your family/loved one by spending $500 on a cabinet when you was supposed to be going grocery shopping (heck what can I say? I hate grocery shopping and I always get the trolley which don't obey me!).
