Charles Annis of Barnstable County, MA and his Descendants

First Four Generations

Charles Annis is often referred to as "The other Charles Annis", by many Annis family researchers. He has often been mistaken as the son of Abraham Annis {1668-1738}, Charles Annis 1692/1693 . This is understandable as the two men shared the same Christian name as well as the same approximate birth date. It is beyond question that Charles Annis, grandson of Cormac Annis, removed to Wells, York County, ME soon after the birth of his first child in 1717. The birth and baptism records of his other nine children, born between 1719 and 1740 are all recorded at Wells and there can be little doubt that Charles remained in Wells until a year before his death in 1741.
Charles Annis of Barnstable County was present for the birth of his seven recorded children at Truro during the period 1717-1732. There has been no positive record that Charles was descended from, or even related to Cormac Annis of Newbury.
