He is a veteran of World War Two, and served in the U. S. Navy {1944-1946}. James is a member of the Roman Catholic Church, America Legion, Annis Family Association, and currently resides at Kalamazoo, Michigan.

He requested transfer to the regular Navy, and was assigned to Samoa as Lieutenant (J.G.) in charge of communications and transport.
