Annis Photo Page

This page will be used to post photographs of Annis family members, memorabilia, books, events, and miscellaneous items that have either been sent to me or that I have found in various places through the years.

The cream bottle above recently sold at E-Bay for over $70.00. It is embossed with the name of Mrs. H.T. Annis, London, NH

I have been told that it was a practice of some dairies at the beginning of the 20th century to have personalized bottles like this for their customers. In this way you could always be sure that you had your bottle. They would, of course, be picked up when emptied, taken back to the dairy, cleaned and reused. This bottle probably belonged to Mrs. Herbert Tyler Annis. Herbert T. Annis was born August 26, 1887 in Concord, NH and his lineage is: William Dunbar Annis (1861-?); George Tyler Annis (1835-?); Matthew David Annis (1801-1889); David Annis (1772-1848); Solomon Annas (1747-?); Daniel Annis (1711-1790); Abraham Annis (1668-1738); Cormac Annis (1638-1717)

AFA member, Catherine Louise Annis has certainly hopped on the Annis Family bandwagon with great excitement and enthusiasm. She recently wrote to me and asked me for the names of extended family members in California, where she lives. I sent the names and asked Board Member Ray Mack to give her a call. He did, and Catherine and Ray were able to get together for lunch. Ray was also going to attend a school reunion that Catherine said her father would be attending as well. Ray and Jerry met and this photo is the proof of the reunion of distant cousins.

Ray's lineage is:
Pearl Annis Mack (1887-1950), Reuben Annis (1849-1924) , Prosper Bell Annis (1828-1871), Jacob Annis (1792-1879), Benjamin Annis (1758-1845), Rolfe Annis (1734-?), John Annis (1700-c.1771), Abraham Annis (1668-1738), Cormac Annis (1638-1717)

Catherine and Jerry's lineage is:
Albert Lea Annis (1914- ), Carl Bishop Annis (1870-1957), James Quincy Annis (1837-1916), Phineas Annis (1803-1880), John Annis (1764-1839), Ezra Annis (1726-1818), John Annis (1700-c.1771), Abraham Annis (1668-1738), Cormac Annis (1638-1717)

Jerry and Ray are 6th cousins, sharing the common grandfather of John Annis (1700-c.1771), and of course Ray and Catherine are 6th cousins once removed.

Jerry and Ray also share a common bond in that they both had great grandfathers that served in the Civil War. James Q. Annis served with the 72nd New York Infantry and Prosper B. Annis served with the 9th New York Cavalry
.

Catherine Louise Annis was born January 28, 1959 at Concord, CA, the daughter of Jerry and Sarah (Coggin) Annis. She has been a member of the Annis Family Association since May 2000 and is currently a real estate agent with Keller Williams Realty in Roseville, CA. She is a single parent of three daughters, Selene, Shannon and Megan.

Much has been written about the late John R. Annis of San Miquel de Allende, Mexico at this web site, simply because he had a large impact on the world of veterinary surgery and on this author. I recently purchased this copy of Veterinary Scope magazine, published by the Agricultural Division of the Upjohn Company of Kalamazoo, MI in 1973. The article "The Use of Parham-Martin Bands in Unstable Fractures", was authored by John Annis and appears in this issue.

Dr. Annis graduated with a D.V.M. from Colorado State University in 1950 and operated a small-animal practice in Denver for seven years, then worked as a resident in surgery at the Small Animal Clinic, Cornell University, for three more years. At Purdue University, he organized the Small Animal Clinic and served as Professor and Assistant Head of the Department of Clinics. In 1973 he was Professor of Surgery, Small Animal Clinic at Purdue and was on a sabbatical leave at the National Autonomous University of Mexico. He was a founding diplomate and later Chairman of the Board of Regents of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons. He was also co-author of the highly acclaimed "An Atlas of Canine Surgery".

John's lineage is: Charles Foster Annis (1872-1945); Jerome T. L. Annis (1842-1911); Jerome B. Annis (1807-1870); Thomas Annis (1750-1809), Daniel Annis (1711-1790); Abraham Annis (1668-1738); Cormac Annis (1638-1717)

For information about John's family history book see: A Look at the Past - A Story of My Life or you can read a brief biography about him at Annis Family Researchers.
