Unlike PCs, I can't go to the local CompUSA and get Mac motherboards and processors (though some people do find them on eBay). I got a used PowerMac from SmallDog.com, and installed a 1.4 GHz Sonnet Processor upgrade. A nice little machine. |
These are the parts I took from the case--motherboard, hard disk, and power supply. The motherboard does not take a standard ATX power supply, so I needed the original power supply. After bad experiences with an earlier PowerMac, I made sure that things booted once they were out of the case. |
This has the hardware installed in the Mac. This older motherboard fit better in the other case than the more modern PowerMac I tried earlier, the heat sink snape onto the motherboard here. If you are going to make your own computer with a Mac, get a Gigabyte Ethernet PowerMac as the donor machine.
The layout inside the cabinet is very similar, by design. This compartment also has a Pioneer DVD+-R/RW optical disk.

Again, the cabinet is lit with cathode tubes and fans with lights.
The white plastic is more translucent than the black plastic. I might have tried to double-up on the plastic in the door if I'd known that ahead of time, but the effect isn't that bad.
