The Secret Arcade

The Future

The Secret Arcade is completed. There may be consoles added or changed in the future, but the cabinet, with its quirks and minor boo-boos, is done.

I believe that I've included the information necessary here to create your own secret arcade cabinet. If there is sufficient demand, I could make and sell plans with step-by-step instructions. Contact me at gadgetdon@mac.com if you are interested in this. However, the design was a large part of the fun of building it, so I recommend you taken the concepts and work from there.

I am about to work on another arcade concept, this one very simple and designed to be cheap. There will be a link from the secret arcade home page when it is ready, check back later.

While I am responsible for the design work and the construction, there are several people and organizations I must thank for helping me along the way. First, the gang at TechTV, for inspiring me. Robert Chang, thanks for showing your cocktail arcade cabinet. Yoshi, thanks for the Y-Box. The Secret Arcade wouldn't exist without your examples.

Second, the gang at Game Cabinets, Inc. Your plans for the cocktail arcade cabinet were clear, and you've been a fast provider of supplies, never asking what I was doing with all those parts. If you're going to make cabinets, I recommend these people.

Third, the people who have created the MAME emulator. You can find out more about MAME at http://www.mame.net.

Fourth, O'Sullivan, for making a wardrobe big enough to put an arcade cabinet in. If you want to make a kit for secret cabinets, let's talk.

Last, but definitely not least, my local friends who have given me so much help and encouragement. Steve helped me see past the flaws in my first machine, and Jim was always there to lend a hand.

If you have questions, please write. I'm pretty proud of the Secret Arcade.
