This is a feature I've wished someone would put in a computer for years, and so I decided I would do it. Have a small box that goes on the desktop for connecting the monitor, keyboard, mouse, audio, USB, Firewire. The big computer can go under the desk and doesn't have to be pulled out to connect cables.
The big square buttons are the power buttons for the two computers. The big lights show whether the computer has power or not. The lights are 12vdc lights that I got at RadioShack, they are connected to the power supplies of the computers.
The small holes are used by the KVM (Keyboard Video Monitor) switch in the satellite box., small push buttons to switch between the two computers and the LEDs showing which computer is selected.

This is the interior of the Satellite Box. The KVM Switch is a Belkin Omniview USB switch, which also switches the audio connections.
Removing the hardware from the old case wasn't difficult, but I had to extend the cables to the smaller circuit board with the switches and LEDs.

This is the back, which is a rather nasty combination of cables. I could put the KVM in the main cabinet, but I'm not sure if the power to the LEDs will make them light up if I extended the cable by six feet instead of six inches.
BTW, if any manufacturer wants to use the idea of a satellite box, be my guest. But I wouldn't say no to a complimentary computer with the feature.
