Game of the Day - Mad Shark

I don't know why he's mad, and I don't see anything shark-like, but Mad Shark is a good time spent vertically shooting.  The game seems relatively obscure - there aren't too many web references to it, the KLOV info is light and the MAME info in the ROMS is bare bones at best.  Don't let the obscurity fool you, Mad Shark is a highly-polished, extremely satisfying game.

The controls are simple and the game plays like every vert shooter there ever was, so it's not in the concept that Mad Shark excels, but in the details.  The sheen here is high.  Graphics are great, sounds are booming, & shooting crap is very fun.  There are lots of details in the polish...  The tanks that attack you turn their turrets as you move... The enemies that take more than one hit show damage as they go... There are coins you collect for bonuses that rapidly change in value (you see the number as they float in front of you) - so there is strategy to wait and make sure you collect the coin when the value is high.

The gameplay and graphics are at my "Goldilocks" level as compared to other games (not too sparse, not too chaotic).  Some old school games can be boring, some new school games are flooded with color and enemy fire - so much that you can't see what's going on.  Mad Shark has lots of stuff happening, but it's never hard to tell where you are or what you need to do.

Play it and make it less obscure.
