Mega Man - The Power Battle (aka Rockman - TPB) is a cool game that acts a little like a vs. fighter and a little like a platformer. Another way to look at it is if you played the normal Mega Man and just skipped to the bosses, it'd be similar to this game.
The graphics are rich and colorful, the controls are simple but effective, and the game is simple fun. You choose from 3 chars to start and you're off. In the beginning, you only have one weapon. As you defeat opponents, you win additional weapons (the 3rd button selects between weapons during the fight). Weapon choice at the right time is key to strategy as you go deeper. The jump button has a little extra to it... Tap it and you jump quickly - hold it and you jump higher. Both jumps matter at the right time.
In some scenarios the environment scrolls, in others, it's more of a static vs battle. There's a sequel to this game I've played a little, but I like this one better.
